Well this sure came out of nowhere. Google has just released the Android N preview!
Google doesn’t normally release these previews until I/O but they decided to change things up this year. The idea is that by getting it out early, they’ll be able to get some early feedback that they can potentially implement into the final version of the preview which will hit drop this summer.
So what’s new in Android N? Well the BIG addition is split-screen multi-tasking! Samsung has had this feature for some time and there had been rumours for a while now that Google would implement it into Android and now it’s here. In addition, they’ve also brought picture in picture mode which will allow you to watch a video while in another app. Curious to know how some less powerful phones handle this undoubtedly demanding feature.
Notifications have also received some tweaks. You will have more ways to interact with notifications and the way they’re grouped will also be changed up a little bit.
Now if you’re really adventurous or possibly have a back up Nexus kicking around, Google has made this preview available to everyone. By visiting g.co/androidbeta, you can download the preview over the air!
Now if all of that wasn’t enough to get you excited, Google left us off with one last little goody.
So, the burning question that’s on everyone’s mind: what will the N release be named? We’re nut tellin’ you yet.
For some reason I’m craving some Nutella…..
