ASUS Transformer TF101 Firmware Update: Fixes and Changes

Background

The author loved the TF101 until Ice Cream Sandwich arrived. That release was buggy, and the first update helped only slightly. A newer update then appeared, changing only the build and not the Android version.

What the update changed

Real-world results

Before the update, the tablet would sometimes get stuck on the boot screen after being set down. Holding the power button usually restarted it, and other times the reviewer had to hold volume up or down together with power to force a boot. After the update the reviewer had not seen this boot loop. Some games still crashed, so some issues remained, but things were a lot better.

How to get the update

If no notification appears, force a check: open the notification area, go to Menu, About Tablet, System Firmware Update, then tap the update button. At the time, the file was not yet available for download on the maker’s website.
