Microsoft’s Skype reached today the 100 million installs mark on Android devices and so, as a way to celebrate, they bumped up Skype for Android to version 4.0. According to Skype this new version was rebuilt from scratch to improve stability, performance and load times and to visually match Android’s clean interface.

The guys over at Microsoft based the Android app on their work on the Windows Phone version of the app. In the new design the conversation is where the user’s focus should be and so the UI puts it on the spotlight. Skype also made efforts to create a common look and feel across platforms from Windows to Android, which is clearly visible the first time you open the updated app and will be great news for people who use Skype on more than one OS.

The 4.0 app opens to a main screen containing a list of recent conversations. This way, recent and common contacts are easily accessed, and it’s only a second from opening the app to sending a message. From the main screen audio calls, instant messaging and video chats are also a touch away.

If these updates don’t leave you contempt Skype won’t make you wait as they say this is just the first in a series of changes and improvements that will be rolling out in the coming months. Download the update via Google Play or by scanning the QR code below, and don’t forget to leave your thoughts on this update on the comment section.
