One of the most iconic companies in the world is finally taking on mobile. In a recent meeting with investors, Nintendo CEO and President Satoru Iwata stated that Nintendo expects to have about 5 mobile games out by March of 2024.
“Just five?” you say. “Why not more?” you ask. Well Iwata addressed that exact question.
You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.
From the sounds of it, Nintendo isn’t looking to just make some simple game (or clone) with some Nintendo characters slapped onto it. Neither are they planning to just port their existing titles over as “it would not match the play styles of smart devices.” Rather, it sounds like they’re going to build from the ground up and are looking to put together a full fledge game, something that would rival their console offerings and hopefully bridge people from playing games on their smart devices to investing into a console.
The first game is expected to drop some time this year but we don’t know what it’ll be at this point. Nonetheless, it’s an exciting times for mobile gamers!
