Google Walking Navigation Beta And New Street View Features Out For Android!

You really have to give it to Google on this one. They have been constantly updating Maps ever since it came out making it one of the killer apps on Android.

We got Navigation a couple of months back but now they’re adding even more. First up is Walking Navigation, basically turn by turn for when you’re on foot. This is a great feature for people who transit a lot and need a bit more assistant walking from location to location. For those who don’t drive (like moi!) this is definitely exciting. It also vibrates when you have to turn! It is in beta so do make sure to not take all the instructions without looking both ways first, probably a good practice with regular GPS anyway.

We also get Street View Smart Navigation. Street View is a great way to get a feel of the area near your destination. It was never the easiest thing to navigate on the phone but with Smart Navigation, I could definitely see myself using this a lot more. Check out the video below to see what I mean.

Lastly, we get a new search bar that makes it a little smarter and more unified. Nice to see Google keeping up with Maps and Navigation as I think it really adds value to the Android platform. Now if only the CRTC could figure out their issue with Google Voice, maybe we’d get that killer app in Canada too
