Google Search got a huge lift when conversational search was thrown into the mix and now another update brings another big change to everyone’s favourite search app/engine. The latest update to Google Search enables the search app to search within your apps for specific results! As you can see in the example GIF above, if you search for a restaurant, you may be given the option to open up the app “Open Table” directly from the search screen. While this may seem simple the implications could be big.
For myself, I would love the ability to search for an artist or album and have an option to open up that search directly in Rdio (my personal favourite music streaming app/service). That’s just one example I can think of but the possibilities just grow from there. I can’t wait for developers to add this support into their apps!
If you’re wondering which apps are supported at the moment, the list is quite short: AllTrails, Allthecooks, Beautylish, Etsy, Expedia, Flixster, Healthtap, IMDb, Moviefone, Newegg, OpenTable, Trulia, and Wikipedia. A little lack luster but it’s a start nonetheless!
If you haven’t received the update yet, it’s coming!
