Google Music in Canada [re-post]

So, Google unveiled it’s Music platform with the store and unleashing of it from Beta.  Which is great … for those living in the US.

What about those of us in the Great White North?  What do we get?

Just as we expected.

But, I thought I’d take a moment here to remind people about the steps I had outlined over a month ago on how to get it working in Canada.

How to get and use Google Music in Canada

Not much has changed, except that you no longer need to get the invite anymore.  Which is all well and good as that invite option disappeared off my screen.

Read through some of the comments [29 of ’em, it’s a personal best].  I recommended using browsertunnel.net as an option to circumvent the IP restriction, but for others it didn’t work.  There’s a bunch that others recommended using instead listed in the comments.  Just gotta keep trying.

I also listed an older version of the Google Music apk.  Here’s one of the more recent versions I’ve found.  4.0.9  [i’m using 4.0.1.501]

So how are you liking Music [if you’ve already installed]?  I’m getting used to it, and starting to warm up to it.  Really really handy to have the web interface at the office, and then rock and roll on the road.  I just started to use the playlist features, which is sad as I’ve probably just put the bike away for the winter, so most of the use out of Music will now be on the web.

Still haven’t figured out the pro/con of keeping actual mp3s on my phone, versus having just pinned access… your thoughts?

Some have tricked out their router with a US proxy, so they can access the market and at least get the free app of the day.  I’m content to wait until it’s brought North.  I mean Books, and Videos came eventually, so will Music.  I can be patient.

So, try it out and let people know your success/failures with it.  Let’s be a community and help each other ‘oot’ like good Canucks!
