Google is rolling out a new update today for the Chrome Beta app for Android which adds two simple yet helpful tools.
Creating a shortcut to place on your homescreen is easier than ever. If you want to create a shortcut of the page your visiting now just click on ”Add to homescreen” from the toolbar menu on the top right corner of the app. A new shortcut will be created on your homescreen which takes you directly to that web site. In some websites the shortcut will open the page in full screen mode and it will appear as a separate app in app switcher.
Also, some Beta users will find that their New Tab page has changed. Now you’ll find a Google search bar and your most visited web sites on the bottom, similar to what I now found on the desktop version of Chrome. Though the search box seems redundant given the existence of the Omnibox, according to Google people still prefer going to the search page, so this New Tab page saves a lot of time.
The update is rolling out today, but as always it may not be available for your phone right now. Be patient and I’m sure by the end of tomorrow you should be able to test these features out. Whenever that happens, leave your feedback in the comments below.
