Creator Of Swype Is Working On A New Tablet Keyboard Called Dryft

Dryft

The very first tablet I purchased was the Asus EEE Pad Transformer and one of the key reasons I bought it at the time was because it had a keyboard dock.  I knew I would be using the tablet for some productivity related tasks and typing on a screen seemed troublesome and difficult.  Fast forward to today and a handful of tablets later and I’m still opting for a physical bluetooth keyboard over typing on the screen (particularly on the 10″ tablets).  I just don’t find the on screen keyboards comfortable or easy to type on.  Well that may change with Dryft.

Dryft is a new keyboard that is in the works and is made by the creator of Swype.  Swype was the keyboard that really got me comfortable typing on my phone’s touchscreen and I’m hoping that Dryft will do likewise for my tablet experience.  What makes Dryft unique is that it will automatically adjust to each individuals natural finger span.  Apparently you just rest all 8 fingers on the screen as you would on a keyboard and the on screen keyboard will adjust to you hand.

What’s also kind of neat is that the keyboard registers input based on vibration rather than just touch.  That means you can actually rest your fingers on the screen without it registering letters.  The video below definitely makes the keyboard look pretty good but of course I’ll reserve judgment till I get to try it out for myself.  If you’re interested in being a Beta tester, they have a sign up page on their website.
