Smartphone Accessories [SURVEY RESULTS]

So, I recently had asked you guys about your accessory habits.  How do you show your device some love by accessorizing it?

Well, I asked, you answered, and here’s what the results look like:

1st Accessory to get!

So cases are the to be grabbed, followed by extra charging peripherals.  Personally I’m the opposite on that, but that’s my opinion.

I also asked for some ‘rationale’ behind this first purchase, and here’s what you answered:

  • Hands free use whilst driving. I use a Blu Ant Speaker phone that announces inbound caller id and prompts you to accept or reject the call by voice. For completely hands free call answering.
  • I hate cables and want to have a stereo headset with my phone at all times.
  • Using as a GPS in the car
  • I generally buy the official dock from eBay.
  • To make full use of Navigation, Google Music, and other power intensive apps that are useful in the car it’s essential to have a charging dock/car mount to keep your device within arms reach and not interfere with driving.
  • I use Torque in my car so it needs to be pluged cuz Torque consume alot of battery.
  • new look, extra protection
  • Protect the phone, give better grip, protect the screen by holding it away from surfaces.
  • I just want something to hold my phone. I don’t want a permanent case that goes around the whole phone. I believe the phone’s dimensions shouldn’t be hidden by a case that makes it thicker and clunkier. I just want a soft sleeve for it to slide into so it doesn’t get so banged up in my bag.
  • to protect your investment!
  • something really simple that provides a little more shock absorption and edge protection than the naked device…..I never use a screen protector though, just doesn’t feel right
  • No charging… device is a fancy paperweight
  • Always never a big enough battery
  • dock, so I don’t wear out the micro-usb connector (already killed two phones that way)
  • I am a heavy user.
  • You can never have enough memory, and Android devices have the ability to add more memory, unlike Apple products. I upgraded from 16gb to 32gb on my phone and I’ve never regretted it.
  • Martin Fields or SGP are the best around. period.
  • Have kids and hate a scratched screen

I reduced some of the answers to a general reason where necessary

2nd Accessory

Again it’s cases and chargers.  If I eliminate those 2 from the mix it’s almost even across the board for what would come next.

Again, here’s what you wrote for some of your reasons:

  • Never seem to have enough juice, having a charger at work and home is a must.
  • Having to plug in a phone would limit how useful it is to me. With an extra battery I can keep cables from connecting to my phone most of the time.
  • More of a desk stand. I also use me phone as an alarm clock.
  • Case with a foot to use it has an alarm.
  • To use in the car, Google Nav is the best GPS
  • MP3s + movies
  • Convenience, better quality audio, noise cancellation for phones that done have the option.
  • Don’t want scratches on my screen that i will have to look at for the next 2-3 years…
  • 16 gb is never enough and the cloud although I have about 80 gb of space there isn’t the same as having access to my files all the time(ie when no data and speed wise)
  • Again, if I were to drop it or scratch it with something by accident, I would cry oceans of tears because it would pain me to feel the scratch everytime I touch the screen. And since my phone is a touch screen… there would be a lot of crying… For a screen protector, I don’t really go for a specific brand since it scratches and such. I also rotate between a matte screen protector and a glossy one. It just depends what mood I’m in for the time being~!
  • I love to listen to music from my phone, so I need earphones, but I hate wired headphones, so I always pair up a bluetooth headset for listening to music and taking calls with.
  • Again to charge my phone in the car (Gps + always on screen sucks battery a lot ! ) , and also to not hold it in one hand while driving (using Google Navigation )
  • my phone is my music player and I need my headphones (or, if I need to make an extended call)
  • I don’t want to add bulk but I do want to protect from scratches
  • duh. My phones get used hard.
  • cases are too bulky, and I don’t drop my phone… often. screens are a little more susceptible to “oops”s.
  • There aren’t many docks for Android, so this might take you a while. But I’m glad I found a good dock for my Arc in China, and bought two. I keep one at work and one at home and sometimes I even just use them to dock the phone, not even charge it.
  • OEM or SEIDIO
  • like to keep the phone looking new
  • … because I ALWAYS beat the snot out of my phones: drop it, throw it on the table, etc.
  • I also try and get a gel skin for Best Skins Ever. A lot of phones look really nice and I just want to keep them from scratching. The cover well and don’t detract from the look of the phone (and are super thin)

I like listening to the insights of others.

Where do you buy?

Just to help understand how you purchase…

Which is about what I figured.  Most times I’ve gone into the cell phone store the accessories were pretty expensive.  When I sold phones at the ol’ Shack back in the day, they would always tell us that it’s the add-ons that make or break a store.  Up your SPT (skus per ticket) and your store will do better.  It also meant that the price points were more expensive.  How could you refuse a $40 case when you just got a $600 phone for nearly free!?!?!  Too bad the case really should be $30-$35…

So lots are shopping around just after they purchase.  Remember, there’s that new Canadian Android store…  I’m hoping that they get back to me about setting up some sort of ‘weekly dealz’ on the site that we can keep you informed on, maybe even give you the scoop!

As for the ‘items that catch my interest’, did anybody see this new case from CRUZER?

me soo want!
