As the popularity of smartphones has increased so has the number of ways to damage your smartphone, especially water damage. I hear stories all the time about how phones just happen to have that one a million accident and end up in a toilet, sink, bathtub, puddle, pool, etc. Many manufacturers have also noticed this trend and have begun to waterproof their phones to some extent and I expect that this will become more and more standard in the future.
However, many of the current phones on the market don’t offer this feature quite yet and that’s where Liquipel can step in. Liquipel is a company that offers after market water protection and they’re opening their first retail store in the West Edmonton Mall tomorrow. The water protection is accomplished by spraying a nano coating to the phone that bonds with the phone at a molecular level. In the FAQ on their website, they do not advise purposefully submerging the phone in liquid but it is supposed to be able 30 minutes of submersion up to a depth of 3.3 feet.
If you are interested in having this treatment applied to your phone it’ll set you back $60, which really isn’t that bad considering your phone probably retails for close to $600-$700. If you’d like to learn more about the technology head over to their website.
Anyone planning on giving this a try?
