Acer didn’t have a lot to show at IFA in Berlin. Nonetheless, they did come out with some cool new smartphones and an intriguing accessory. The Acer Extend being showcased at IFA is a notebook chassis meant to turn your phone into your primary computing device, by giving you a bigger screen, keyboard, and mouse.

Differently than what you get with other hybrid combos, the Acer extend doesn’t have any hardware besides a screen and a battery. So on its own it is just a brainless shell, completely powered by your phone’s hardware. When you connect the cable to your smartphone the screen on your device will go black and the Extend’s screen will turn on. Though you can’t interact with your phone in this mode, when a call comes the screen will turn on for you to answer it.

The keyboard and track-pad should offer a good pc-like experience, but if you’re looking to play your touch games in a bigger screen you might need to look elsewhere since this device doesn’t feature a touchscreen.

The device’s battery will keep your smartphone charged up which is very important for the people that travel a lot or spend a lot of time away from an outlet.
