Mugen Power 3200mAh Extended Battery Hands-on Review for Samsung Galaxy S II

If there’s one thing Android users across the world can stand unanimous on, it’s the thirst for better battery life. Some Android phones handle the punishment we throw at them, where others could use that extra push. Perhaps you’re one of those individuals that use your phone hardcore, making it jump through hoops, day in and day out like myself. For those instances, we look for alternatives to get that extra juice without compromising our mobile experience.

Mugen Power was kind enough to send me one of their units to play with for my Galaxy S II.

I have used many ‘extended’ batteries before, some work well, where others are less than impressive. My experience with Mugen Power’s 3200mAh extended battery for Galaxy S II was one I greatly enjoyed, not only did it surpass my expectations, it didn’t add to much bulk as others often do.

The package comes with a replacement door for the back of your Galaxy S II, as the battery is twice as thick as the stock OEM battery that comes with your phone. The door snaps snug and secure, just as the original door does.

The replacement door leaves your camera free from obstruction, as well as preventing reflective flash from your LED when taking pictures.

One thing I absolutely love about this battery replacement, is the bottom of the phone is unobstructed, allowing the phone to fit in my Galaxy S II charging dock. Finding a replacement battery that allows the phone to be docked is a rare find.

As you can see, the added bulk only doubles the size of the Galaxy S II, which already a super thin phone to begin with. This design still allows this phone to fit into my leather belt holster with ease.

Now lets get to what really matters, the performance of the Mugen Battery itself.

As I mentioned earlier, I have tried many extended batteries that fell short than what was advertised. Mugen Power has done a brilliant job designing and building this battery to be among to top shelf batteries. The stock OEM battery that comes with your Galaxy S II is a 1650mAh, where the Mugen Power is 3200mAh. I can honestly say that it has doubled my battery indefinitely.

If you follow me on Google+, you will probably notice that I’m what someone has titled me as a “Music Monster”. I stress my battery daily at work, with 8 hours of bluetooth streamed music to my headphones. Battery life for me is a must, as if my phone’s battery craps out, I’m stuck in silence for the rest of the day. Of course during those 8 hours, I am sending text, emails, Google+, ect, as well.

While I’m writing this, looking at my phone, I’m sitting at 59% and haven’t charged since 6AM yesterday. According to my battery usage app, my phone has been running for 1D 4H 55M 17S. Rounding it off, that’s about 29 hours. My usage is as follows:

Roughly at 60% battery over one full days use. As you can see by my statistics, I use my phone moderate/heavy. That’s outstanding for a Galaxy S II, as I read people not being able to get through a whole day on heavy use.

After my full three days of use of this battery, I am extremely impressed with it’s performance, and the quality of the replacement door provided.

I highly recommend this battery. Although the price is fairly expensive, set at $100.60, I would consider this battery to be well worth its price.
