Amazon Appstore Arrives Outside the US, but Canadians Hit a Snag
The announcement
Amazon said its app store was open to more countries than the US. Earlier, Canadians had used workarounds, such as a US address, mainly to get the free app of the day. The original author tried the new release with an official account and saw little difference at first.
The update: it did not work
The post was later updated with a correction. The app installed without trouble and the sign-in worked, but downloading was blocked. Even free apps would not download, so the author concluded Canada was still left out.
How the store worked
- The Amazon app had to stay installed to use apps obtained through it. Uninstalling the store app removed those apps as well.
- Its main draw over the Android Market was a paid app offered free each day.

This is a historical note. App stores and availability have changed a great deal since, and the Android Market is now Google Play.
