Sony Xperia S Now Shipping Across the Globe, Soon To Cananda

The Sony Xperia S is now being shipped globally and should be available in Canada in the not so distant future. Dubbed the “first Sony smartphone” in a blog post making the announcement, the Xperia S was unveiled at CES and is among the first from the company to ship after their acquisition of Ericsson. Final pricing and availability will be determined by the carriers.

Sony no doubt releases some eye candy over the years, and this one stands ready to fight the competition with an impressive set of hardware. Of course it will be no match the for highly rumoured Galaxy S III and its quad-core goodness. Surely your tired of hearing about it by now, with as little as one leak per day. Could this be the next Galaxy S III? (picture of a rock)

Anyways, back to business.

Sony has also released some documentation, and the necessary proprietary Qualcomm drivers, to make it easier for devs to get over the often-frustrating humps of building great custom software.

In a blog post outlining its intentions, Sony says that it is the first time they are collaborating with Qualcomm on its S3 lineup of chips, but this should make it easier to get bootloader-unlocked phones running the latest versions of Android.

With everyone reaching for ICS these days, knowing that Sony is offering the helping hand, perhaps we will see some ICS roms appear quite quickly for those who hate being stuck on Gingerbread roms.

If you want to grab an unlocked version of this phone, Expansys.ca has some in stock right now.
