LG has definitely put themselves back on the map over the past year with their latest offerings, the LG Optimus G, Optimus G Pro (which we’re still not sure if we’re getting), and of course the Nexus 4. And as their popularity in the mobile tech industry grows, it looks like they’re ready to expand again into the tablet market.
This news comes via a interview that LG Mobile VP, Kim Wong, held recently. In case you’ve forgotten, LG had released an 8.9″ tablet what seems like years ago (it was about two years ago to more precise) but it never really took off. To be fair, most Android tablets were having a hard time back in the day but after this particular flop, LG decided to put tablets on the back burner. Android tablets have been steadily growing in popularity though so LG has decided to re-enter that market. No details were given on size but if since they, like everyone else, are chasing Samsung and Apple, I wouldn’t be surprised with a variety of tablets sizes.
In other news, Mr. Wong also stated that flexible display equipped phones will not be coming to market this year as originally thought. It seems that LG does not think the tech is quite there yet and want to give things more time to mature and develop. Disappointing news for sure but I too feel that some other areas of the mobile tech (particularly battery tech) need to advance a bit more before flexible displays will really be useful.
