Asus Unveils The FonePad At MWC Too

Asus FonePad

We just showed you one of Asus’ tablet/phone hybrids, the PadFone, now we introduce to you another hybrid, the FonePad (that could get a little confusing).  We’ve been seeing some leaks of the FonePad surfacing over the last week or so so there wasn’t a ton of new surprises but we’ll give you the spec run down one more time:

There’s two really key points that really set this tablet apart.  The first is the 3G capabilities that include phone capability, hence, FonePad.  This 7″ can be used as a phone if wanted.  It’s interesting to see this trend developing with smaller tablets as Samsung has built the same functionality into the Galaxy Note 8.0.  The second key point that sets this tablet apart is the price tag.  You’re not likely going to find a 3G capable device for under $250 but that’s exactly what Asus has put together in the FonePad.

It’ll be interesting to see how well that Intel processor stacks up against the competition but I’d definitely like to check this device out when it releases.  The FonePad will be available in the USA in March so hopefully Canada won’t be too far behind.

What do you guys think of this Asus hybrid?  And what do you guys think about this emergence of phone capable tablets?
