The Nexus 6P Is Official!

Nexus 6P Official - 1

Well the Nexus event just wrapped up and the new devices are officially here.  Let me officially introduce you to the Huawei made Nexus 6P.  Here are the official specs:

As previously reported, the Huawei Nexus 6P is the first Nexus device to use an all metal body.  It is made out of aluminum and comes in Frost White, Aluminum and Graphite.  A Gold version was also rumoured to be headed to Japan but it was not mentioned during the event.  Google also touted the screen to body ratio and cheekily compared it to a certain phone with a 5.5″ display that has larger dimensions despite the smaller display.

Google also spent a fair amount of time showcasing their camera which is something they haven’t really done a ton in the past.  Charged with 1.55 µm pixels and laser auto focus, Google believes that their new cameras will exceed our expectations despite the lack of OIS.  In addition, they have brought along some new software features and shooting modes including smart burst, slow motion video, and 4K video.

Now let’s talk pricing and availability.  Surprisingly, Canadians will not be able to begin pre-ordering either the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X today.  We’re not too sure when things will open up for us here but as soon as we know we’ll let you know.  US pricing is as follows for the Nexus 6P: 32GB – $499, 64GB – $549 and 128GB – $649.  While Google didn’t actually unveil prices for other countries, Android Police did uncover some additional pricing and it’s not pretty for us Canadians.  According to their leak, the 32GB Nexus 6P will cost $699 wit the 64GB and 128GB costing $749 and $849 respectively.  Not quite what I was hoping to see but as we all know, our dollar is pretty brutal right now.  While I was very tempted to pull the trigger on the 6P, I may have to hold off at these prices.

What do you guys think of the new Nexus 6P?
