Well it’s official. HTC has one upped their flagship device before it even hit the market; meet the HTC One M9+. While the M9+ looks very similar to the original M9, it does pack a handful of extra goodies. Here are the specs:
- 5.2″ QHD SUPER LCD3 Display
- 2..2GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio X10 Processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB Internal Storage
- microSD Card Slot
- 20.7MP + 2.1MP Duo Camera
- 4MP UltraPixel Front Facing Camera
- 2840 mAh Battery
- Fingerprint Reader
- Android 5.0 with Sense 7.0
So the big differences between the original M9 and the M9+ are the screen, processor, camera and the fingerprint reader. The QHD display on the M9+ is a first for an HTC device and will likely set the trend for future flagship devices. The choice to go with MediaTek for the processor is definitely an interesting one and it’ll be very interesting to see how the Snapdragon 810 powered M9 compares to the MediaTek powered M9+. The re-introduction of the Duo camera isn’t a big deal to me but the introduction of the fingerprint reader is a nice touch (no pun intended). Of course, not all fingerprint readers are made equal but it seems that HTC has used the touch style reader over the swipe which is always a good option.
All in all, a pretty nice upgrade over the original but there’s still one big question that remains to be answered. Will the M9+ come to Canada? From what I’ve read and heard thus far the answer is….. no… or at least not right now. There were rumours that HTC would bring a Snapdragon powered version of the M9+ to North American markets down the road so that’s definitely still a possibility but the likelihood of the MediaTek M9+ coming to Canada seems pretty low.
