An interesting patent filing has turned up today! Samsung has filed for a patent of a wrap around touch screen smart phone. As you can see in the pictures, the touchscreen will actually wrap around the edge of the device. In addition to the cool factor of such a design, it looks like Samsung has found ways to make this functional and useful for the end user.
For example, in photo number 6 you can see that they could use that edge screen as a navigation section while reading an e-book! Rather than having to access the contents through a menu or tab, it will also be present on the edge of the screen. Another example is having the battery charging icon along the edge of the device. Those are just a few of the ideas displayed in the patent filing and I’m sure they have other ideas already in mind!
While you may think that this type of phone is years away, that may not be the case. As soon as I saw these diagrams I was immediately reminded of a concept device Samsung showed off at CES 2024.
