Google’s Largest Pixel 2 Could Be Manufactured By LG

At some point, word surfaced online that Google is prepping not two Pixel 2 models, but three. They were codenamed “walleye”, “muskie” and “taimen”.

Well according to a new report, it seems Google has axed “muskie” – the direct successor of the Pixel XL – in favor of the larger “taimen”. At this point, we don’t know how larger “taimen” is going to be, but we’ll have to assume its display will exceed the 5.5-inch of the Pixel XL.

Anyway, a reference to “taimen” in the Google Issue Tracker under the “USB PD Compliance Failure” title revealed an interesting detail. According to the second comment, it appears that the “taimen” will be manufactured by LG.

It’s not the first time LG and Google partner up, as the Korean tech giant also produced the Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X, so the news doesn’t come as a big shock. We also previously heard Google was looking to place a large order of curved OLED displays with LG.

We don’t know whether “muskie” will also be manufactured by LG, or whether HTC will be in charge of producing it. But it’s quite a possible scenario. Remember that in 2024, Google partnered up with both LG and Huawei to produce the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P respectively.
