Nexus One Now Offered Via Mobilicity, The Google Phone Lives On!

Oh sure, Google may have killed the HTC Nexus One on their end. But they did say that they’re gonna work with retailers globally and keep selling it. Now Mobilicity isn’t the first Canadian carrier to pull the Nexus out of the grave, Vidéotron Mobile actually beat them to that. $549 is the price Mobilicity is asking for the contract free model.

Although the Nexus One is not an especially recent model, the advent of newer phones from a variety of manufacturers has led to the emergence of more sophisticated features, prompting one to inquire as to the rationale behind purchasing this particular device. Let us consider the following. To date, no mobile phone in Canada has been released with the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, which represents the latest version of the Android operating system.

The Nexus One remains the device that runs the version of the Android operating system that Google deems optimal for mobile devices. The device runs the unmodified Android operating system, without any custom skins or applications, offering a pure Android experience. Some individuals find this appealing, and it is undoubtedly an excellent device for development purposes, as it does not impede the process with unnecessary features. Additionally, the Nexus One is the only Android phone that is shipped with the factory unlocked, regardless of the purchase method.

It should be noted, however, that Mobilicity currently operates exclusively in Toronto. Nevertheless, there is no cause for concern. Mobilicity has indicated that it plans to expand its service area to include Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa in the near future.
