I guess it’s just one of those numbers days…. Earlier we reported about Samsung hitting the 10 million milestone with their Galaxy S4 and now we’re hearing the HTC has hit the 5 million milestone with their latest flagship, the HTC One. The One reached this milestone in just over a month and while it’s not quite at the level of the Galaxy S4, it’s still encouraging news nonetheless for a company that has been struggling lately and has seen several key figures jump ship. And while 5 million is impressive, HTC believes that it could have been even higher had it not been for the manufacturing issues that caused shortages. Here’s what they had to say:
“Orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply. This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it’s doing really well or not.”
The other thing that I’ve felt (and have been rambling about) could really help push sales of this phone is proper marketing and, in my opinion, that is still lacking too. I have just begun to see the HTC “digging” ad on TV and while it’s kind of funny I don’t think most people understand what they’re talking about. I really think that HTC needs to showcase the design, the speakers, and the especially the camera to help garner some interest. Nokia’s latest Lumia commercial does exactly that and makes me wish more and more than Nokia would drop Elop and join the Android army but it seems that that is still just wishful thinking.
As I shared in my review of the One, I loved the phone and I really hope that HTC is able to sort out all the nonsense going on at home base, get some proper marketing done and push these phones into the public. I’d hate to see the company that helped bring Android to the world disappear into irrelevancy.
