Well isn’t this interesting. Another Google Play Edition device has quietly made its way onto the Google Play Store. A GPE of the Moto G is now available for purchase and it will come in both 8GB and 16GB models. The 8GB will cost just $179 while the 16GB costs only $20 more at $199.
While it’s always exciting to see more devices getting the GPE treatment, this particular GPE device is a tad bit odd. Motorola’s newest devices are pretty darn close to stock Android as is. You do generally get quicker updates with the GPE devices but Motorola has been pretty on point with those lately too. Plus by going with the GPE device, you will lose Motorola’s own software features which, in my opinion, are probably some of the more useful software features any manufacturer has added to Android.
Luckily (or unluckily) you won’t really have to worry about trying to choose between the original and the GPE as the GPE devices are still not available outside of the US. I’m really curious to know why Google has restricted these devices so much. I feel like they’re really missing out on some good potential sales by limiting the availability to the US but what can you do.
