Rejoice fans of two-year old Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge! If you purchased your device from Rogers, then you’ll be happy to know the carrier confirmed the Android 7.0 Nougat update will start rolling out May 1.
On the same date, the carrier will also push out the monthly Android security updates for a slew of devices including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6P and Sony Xperia X Performance.
The company cautiously warns users that “sometimes, things change beyond our control so all dates listed are subject to change”. Keep your fingers cross and hopefully the update will start rolling out during the first days of next week.
Keep in mind that these updates come in waves, so some Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge users might get it sooner than others.
Samsung has just launched the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ which also run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Once updated to the latest build, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will be on-par with Samsung’s latest flagships, at least in terms of software version. Naturally the Galaxy S8 brings software additions which are not available for Galaxy S6 users, most notably Bixby Voice and Vision (which aren’t fully operational yet, by the way).
