First Ever Amazon Phone May Be Exclusive To AT&T

Amazon Phone Invite

Amazon is all set to introduce their first ever smartphone tomorrow but just ahead of tomorrow’s announcement comes some potentially disappointing news.  According to the Wall Street Journal, the online retail giant’s first phone may be exclusive to AT&T.  Of course, this is a rumour at this point but this isn’t the first time that this rumour has surfaced so there is some weight there.  And to be frank, there was a chance that we weren’t going to get this device to begin with.  Amazon, like Google and it’s Nexus products, sells their devices near cost and make money through their ecosystem.  While we do finally have access to some of Amazon’s paid services, there’s a lot we don’t have still so we may have been left in the dark regardless.  All that said, there is a chance we could still get the new device here in Canada as this exclusivity could be in reference to other US carriers not getting the device rather than a world-wide exclusivity.

And just in case you’re wondering what all the hoopla is about this device, rumour has it that it will employ some sort of innovative and futuristic 3D interface that will be powered by a collection of cameras on the front.  Plus, it’ll likely carry a pretty reasonable price tag because, as mentioned earlier, Amazon’s strategy is to make their money in selling services after the fact.
