There is definitely a wide range of different Android phones on the market but time and time again we Canadians have missed out on great phones. Down south in the United States, new Android phones are announced for their carriers all the time. Many of these phones never make their way across the border to Canada, but are they that good?
The best phones out in America now that haven’t been announced by Canadian phone companies are the HTC Evo 4G, the Galaxy Epic 4G and the whole of the Droid series.
HTC Evo 4G: A giant phone with a 4.3 inch screen, Hummingbird processor, front and back cameras and a kickstand on the rear. The main selling point of this phone is it’s ability to use Sprint’s WiMAX (4G) network. The phone is nice, but without the availability of 4G in Canada it isn’t really worthwhile.
Galaxy Epic 4G: A variant of the 4 inch Galaxy S, this phone has a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard and is also available by Sprint for 4G. This phone is definitely worthwhile for people who text or email a lot, but again the lack of 4G in Canada makes it less spectacular.
Droid Series: The Droid 2, Pro and X all have never seen Canadian availability. Ranging from a slide-out QWERTY to a landscape QWERTY to a 4.3 inch screen, these phones are all monsters. Each phone is great in its own right, as they all have great specifications. None of these phones have 4G which would make them perfect for life in Canada.
If any of these phones ever made their way to Canada it would be quite the event… But they never will. The question is: are you willing to cross the border to get one yourself?
