I’ve got some more not so good news in regards to Android updates. According to a rep on their UK Facebook page, many of the 2024 Sony Xperia phones will not get updated past ICS.
I’m sure this is disappointing news for many people, but as I said before, Sony had a habit of coming to the party with older hardware. Add to that fact that custom OEM skins tend to increase the size of the firmware updates, it’s not really surprising that these devices don’t get updated. They simply wouldn’t be able to handle it.
Perhaps if a vanilla version of Android were to be thrown on the devices there may be a chance of updates. But again, OEM skins tend to bog down what Google has tried to make good.
But as always, there’s always the developer community to help us out if we’re so courageous to do so.
