[Questions Answered] Galaxy S3 issues

Let’s dip into the mailbag of questions one more time here…

_”Ok, I did it before, but one more time:
It is about Galaxy S3. 

I’ve got this phone on June 30 and tested it over long weekend. 
Being unsatisfied I returned it for repair July 2nd. 
Got it back on July 20th and returned for repair again July 21st. 
It is still somewhere for repair and I have no idea when they will give me my phone back. 

Than I have a few questions: 

1/ Is Rogers able to extend the warranty on the phone for one month because I didn’t have a chance to use it normally? 

2/ How to create Direct Dial shortcuts on Galaxy S3′s Home Screen for my Contacts? 

3/ I cannot watch live stream movies on this phone (FLASH WAS INSTALLED). How to fix it? 

4/ All applications which I had on my previous phone (Galaxy S2 LTE) the ones purchased or even free ones weren’t transfer to this phone automatically after the first repair. It happened automatically when I’ve got that phone for the first time. It had ICS version 4.05 installed at the first pick up. 

Enough questions? I think so. 
Thank you if you can answer at least two of them properly to help to fix the newest and ‘greatest’ android phone.

Seeing as I’m not the Galaxy S3 guy, and Tom is, I’ve let him answer:

1: No, Rogers doesn’t care how long you actually got to use your phone, an agreement is an agreement. You’re very lucky if they make an exception.

[edit Ryan: I well placed call with customer service may help.  Have them note the time in repair in your file … and if all else fails I recommend taking complaints to the Better Business Bureau – always worked for me.  Ask me and I can tell you stories]

2: you can place a contact widget on your home screen with your widget menu. It’s not totally direct dial, but it will bring up a contact bubble which you touch that widget which will present your with options to call, SMS, email, etc. Perhaps check the Google play store for APW (Android Pro Widgets) it’s free and offers lots of media and contact style Widgets they might serve you better.

3: Flash is really all you need, just make sure within your browser setting you have the flash setting to “always on” and ensure your using the stock browser. Other browsers may not handle flash as well such as chrome.

[edit ryan:  what app were you using for live streaming?  via the browser?  have you tried other browsers just to ensure… as Tom says Chrome doesn’t support flash]

4: the whole backup / restore thing can often screw up. If you uncheck the box to not have your apps restored on one occasion, sometimes it removes the backup and you’ll have to make a new one simply by making sure the backup / restore are both enabled and manually downloading them again.

Luckily the Google play store has a list of all you recently downloaded apps, so getting then all back shouldn’t be to hard.
