So the other day I talked about a few of the ways you can connect to your device, be it physical or not, and then asked you how you did yours.
Here’s the results!
To me that’s surprising. As much as I love my wireless connection and abhor any sort of physical connection these days (except to charge… and still thinking about that hack for a touchstone on my phone) I didn’t think that that many of you were in this style of camp too.
I just finished talking with a friend in helping him set up his Nexus device and he asked where the SD card was… then after finding out asked “are SD cards a dead thing?”. Well, with only 1 person answering… just maybe eh?
I assumed the majority were using a physical connection to their device, and although it is true, it’s not by that much of a margin really.
Cord connected folk mentioned how it was often connected anyways for charging, or in some manufacturer cases, for the syncing software (i.e. Kies). And this makes sense. If it’s already connected and I want to send a file, no need to set up another service.
So, let’s take a look at those options for a non-cord connection:
Internet based:
- Dropbox – this seems to be clear and away the big winner/usage scenario. I must say, it’s becoming my favourite as it’s had the least issues, and the instant upload works seemlessly. Plus the extra free GB has been a good bonus!
- Drive – the second most popular service chosen
- Most of you that commented suggested that although this is what you chose, for LARGE (~1GB or so) you would still transfer via a physical connection. Can’t blame ya.
Intranet based:
- AirDroid – this was far and away everybody’s favourite choice! I should do a review on it sometime, but it seems like EVERYBODY knows about it already
- Some mentions of Bluetooth, but there’s the whole compatibility and file type issues to work around
- Other mentions were (not one of you said Wifi File Explorer, like I suggested):
- File Expert
- SwiFTP (I think that’s the link… only one I could find)
- ES Explorer
- WinAmp (for music)
- Total Commander
- Folder Sync Lite (but I think that should be in the internet one)
- Solid Explorer (love this file explorer)
- Double Twist
- Samba Filesharing
- QuickSSHd
I love hearing about how other use their device!
