I don’t normally post about roms and rooted apps an such, but this has got me really excited. Cyanogen, arguably the best near stock rom available for Android phones, has released their first official stable release for Galaxy S II.
For some odd reason if you don’t know what Cyanogen is, they specialize in making roms for various phones and try to make their rom work for as many as posible, rather than roms being targeted to 2-3 phones as we normally see. Cyanogen roms are just about as close to Google’s stock rom as you can get, but loaded with enormous amounts of tweaks and mods to give you 100% control over your phone.
Of course, in order to use Cyanogen on your Galaxy S II, or any phone, you must be rooted. How you go about rooting is different for many phones, and some cases can be harmful to your phone if done incorrectly. Should you wish to try it, the fine people over at XDA will have a guide ready for you. Just search “Root (Phone model) XDA” chances are they already have a guide ready and waiting for you.
Those who have experience will feel right at home grabbing this rom.

Alternatively you can also download the rom via Rom Manager which can be found on the Android Market.
*Once again, rooting, or attempting to flash roms is at the risk of the user, if you are unsure of the process, please take the time to read up over at XDA*
This is a fine ThanksGiving gift the people over at Cyanogen have delivered to us, and I for one say thank you.
Happy ThanksGiving to all our readers at AndroidinCanada as well, go easy on the turkey.
