Access your desktop from your phone – RDM+ Review [AND FREE KEYS!]

There has been a lot of talk lately about the whole ‘cloud’ service.  Heck, I do it a fair bit as I’m a big Cloud believer.  However, sometimes you just want to be able to get something on your computer that you either forgot to “cloud up” or just isn’t available.

This is where RDM+ comes in.  Like those programs where tech support can get that remote access to your computer, RDM (or remote desktop for mobiles) allows your phone a glimpse at your desktop and then allows you to control the mouse [albeit not as intuitive as you would have imagined].  But what’s neat is on the computer you can watch the events unfold and v.v. [if someone uses the mouse or keyboard, it is reflected on the phone’s screen too]

I can see this being very handy by installing it on my parents’ computer and being able to see what they mean by “you know, that thingie, with the box around it…“.

Now it’s a little slow, but it allowed me to view my screen, move around, type away and even recognized I have dual monitors installed (which you pick by choosing ‘menu / displays’.

So it’s not going to be an “everyday app”, but in those instances where you NEED that file, or your parents are cursing again… It can really save your neck.  Were it faster, and more seemless, I could start doing all my photoshop work from my phone on specific files… but it’s not quite there yet.

And SHAPE [the company behind the software] has 4 free keys for us to give away.  So, what I think you should do to earn these free keys [a $9.99 saving] is write me in the comments about a situation that you encountered, where having RDM+ would have saved you some real headache.

Go at it!

[oh, if you’re going to install with one of the keys, you’ll need the Windows/Mac desktop software first, then the mobile app.  Don’t install from the Market, as it’ll ask you to pay for it, but install the APK from here]
